Review | Melati Halal Japanese Skincare

Makeup removers are among those products that ran like water. Well, at least to me, it kinda is as I can somewhat stretch my facial cleansers as I use different products according to my mood and I have separate cleansers for morning and evening but during weekdays where I usually wear wakeup to work, I tend to use one makeup remover throughout the month. 

I recently got this makeup remover from Ippin.com.my to try so I'll be sharing with you guys my thoughts on this very product. 

First, let me talk a little bit about this Melati Halal Japanese skincare line. Melati is a skincare line that is specialising in makeup removal, moisturising and sun protection products. The brand combines high quality Japanese cosmetic products with Islamic principles. 

Product Description:

This gel contains extract from coix lacryma-jobi ma-yuen seed (Adlay Coix seed) and Prunus lannesiana (a kind of cherry blossom), which has been well-known and loved since ancient times, for its effect to smooth, refine, and tone skin, prevent dark spots resulted from sun exposure, and moisturise skin. Continuous use of Melati skin care products to maintain natural, healthy, glowing skin.

• Conditions and refreshes your skin with sodium hyaluronate

How to use: 

After shaking the bottle gently, saturate a cotton pad with removing lotion. 

Gently blend well with make-up and wipe face, neck, and eye area until makeup is removed.

Ingredients:

Water, Glycerin, Hydrogenated Polyisobutene, Butylene Glycol, Sodium Hyaluronate, Soluble Collagen, Prunuslannesiana Flower Extract, Coix Lacryma-Jobi Ma-Yuen Seed Extract, Hamamelis Virginiana (Witch Hazel) Leaf Extract, Ascorbic Acid, Malic Acid, Citric Acid, Sodium Citrate, Potassium Hydroxide, Dextrin, Carbomer, Phenoxyethanol

Packaging:

The product came in that simple box packaging with grey and green-turqoise design. The product label is printed in Japanese with a huge Halal logo on it. The bottle is somewhat transparent that still allow you to see the amount of product left in it but the product label is actually printed in English and the green colour used is actually different compared to the box. The product came in 120ml size. 

It's truly great to see when a bottle packaging came with a pump for convenience but having a stopper that came with it is even better as it won't let your product being pumped accidentally in the luggage and cause spilling. 

Application:

I know it's advised that this remover is to be used with cotton pad and you can just wipe your made up face with it but I just want to show you guys when I tried using the product on its own. From top to bottom: Innisfree Long Wear Cushion (a matte cushion foundation), Sakura Kokoro BB Cream, dried MAC matte lipstick, toughest black eyeliner from Kat Von D, and a cream blusher with fine specks of glitter. 

The product is in that semi-liquid i.e. lotion-like form and it's actually thinner than the regular Korean cleansing milk that I've used before. That's why you need to to use cotton pads with this. 

After massaging the lotion for few seconds, I noticed that the texture turned into even thinner in texture as it melts the makeup. I gotta say that it does feel weird as if the makeup isn't thoroughly being removed however when I rinse it off, I do feel my skin is actually clean and when I followed up with a facial cleanser and toned my skin afterwards, I don't see any residue left on the cotton pad. 

Still, I think it's safe to say that this is more on removing light makeup like BB or CC Cream and sunscreens with high SPF. I won't recommend for you to remove your high coverage foundations or waterproof makeup with this as you definitely need at least oil-based cleansers for that. 

Overall, I'm liking the light texture of this makeup remover as it feels nice when I actually used it with cotton pads to remove my makeup. The fact that this is a Muslim-friendly beauty product really makes me really comfortable using it. Shop the product here. 

If you read my previous post, Ippin.com.my also sent me a trial kit of the other 2 products comprising this Melati line which is its light moisturiser Melati White Gel and moisturiser with sunscreen function in it, Melati UV Care Cream. 

First, let me talk about Melati White Gel. This product is actually a lotion, moisturiser and essence, all in one Gel Cream. 

Ingredients:

Water, Squalane, Glycerin, Hydroxyethyl Acrylate/Sodium Acryloyldimethyl Taurate Copolymer, Butylene Glycol, Sodium Hyaluronate, Soluble Collagen, Prunus Lannesiana Flower Extract, Paeonia Albiflora Root Extract, Rosa Multiflora Fruit Extract, Perilla Ocymoides Leaf Extract, Coix Lacryma-Jobima-Yuen Seed Extract, Hamamelis Virginiana(Witch Hazel) Leaf Extract, Ascorbic Acid, Silica Dimethyl Silylate, Dextrin, Malic Acid, Citric Acid, Sodium Citrate, Polysorbate-60, Phenoxythanol, Fragrance.

As you seen below, the moisturiser is indeed light in texture and gel-like but to me it's pretty much the same texture as regular Korean emulsion. Once spread on my skin with a little massaged, the product absorbed into my skin within less than a minute and doesn't leave any sticky feeling. It claimed to have brightening effect but as I only used is for several days, I haven't got to that point though. It's worth to note that this product is actually can be used on the entire body. 

   

   

Second product is the Melati UV Care Cream. According to the brand website, it's non-sticky, a mild gel-type sunscreen that will safely protect your skin from inside out as there's UV absorbent contained in micro capsule that will cut UV rays from exposing to your skin directly.

Water, Ethylhexyl Methoxycinnamate, Dipropylene Glycol, Hydroxyethyl Acrylate/Sodium Acryloyldimethyl Taurate Copolymer, Glycerin, Squalane, Butyl Methoxydibenzoylmethane, Butylene Glycol, Betaine, Sodium Hyaluronate, Soluble Collagen, Prunus Lannesiana Flower Extract, Paeonia Albiflora Root Extract, Perilla Ocymoides Leaf Extract, Coix Lacryma-Jobima-Yuen Seed Extract, Ascorbic Acid, Vinyl Dimethicone/Methicone Silsesquioxane Crosspolymer, Malic Acid, Citric Acid, Sodium Citrate, Dextrin, Polysilicone-14, Polysorbate 60, Phenoxyethanol, Fragrance

Before I started using Korean skincare, I used a moisturiser with sunscreen function for my day moisturiser and the texture is indeed similar to that. 

I usually use that amount of sunscreen for my whole face and if there's extra, I'll just spread it well on the back of my hands. 

   

As you can see on the left, the cream spread well and without sticky feeling as well. This is definitely what I'm going for my day moisturiser. On the right, I used my flash to see the white cast and there's indeed very small amount of it but I doubt it can be noticed using rough eyes. 

I actually not sure whether I should use a separate sunscreen on top of this however I do use my cushion foundation with SPF50 PA+++ during the day anyway so no room of doubt there. 

Overall, I do like this 3-step skincare concept brought out by the brand i.e. Greato Corporation. It's truly simple, Muslim-friendly and if you're not into makeup, then using the White Gel as your moisturiser, the UV Care Cream for your sunscreen and then remove it using the makeup remover at the end of the day, it's already suffice for your day-to-day routine.
