This takes me back to 2013 when I first reviewed my first cushion makeup item, a CC Cream from the same brand. Long gone the days when I don't like coverage for my skin.
When it comes to cushion foundation or base makeup, I always opted for items with sebum control for oily T-zone, medium to full coverage and long wear. Of course, the shade should be natural and doesn't make me look like a ghost. I don't know if 2 tone lighter than your natural skin tone is trend for you but not moi.
So today I'll be reviewing a cushion foundation from THE FACE SHOP which is the Oil Control Water Cushion that offers long-lastingness, moisture and coverage at that.
Product Description:A sebum controlling, matte cushion foundation for summer and oily skin

Packaging:
This cushion foundation came in a soft turquoise box with droplet of water pattern. The lower part of the box is coloured with dark grey to accentuate the silver wording of the brand.
There's product description at the back both in English and French.
There's the ingredient list printed on the side of the box and on the other side of the box, there's simple illustration on how the cushion provides hydration whereas the water is originated from Tasmanian, Australia plus Italian Oxygen Water, sebum-controlling property is based on Citrus Unshiu Peel Extract and Blooming Rose Powder while Long-lastingness of the cushion is given by Skin Fit Cover Powder.
The top lid shown that I got mine in the shade of V205 Dark Beige. At the time I bought this, there was only 3 shades available but currently there's the fourth darkest shade available online which is Light Brown.
The bottom of the box just showed basic company details and do note that this cushion foundation is good for 12 months after opened.
Now let's talk about the case of the cushion. The case is made of plastic in that white colour with silver lining the side of the lid. There's the brand logo printed at the middle of the case. I do like this minimalistic style.
This cushion came with that typical blue puff to apply the foundation.
There's the expiring date printed at the bottom of the case for reference and of course there's basic info of the cushion for convenient.
Like other cushion foundation, there's sticker to seal the cushion so do take that out before use. I also love the huge mirror that came with the cushion unlike previous THE FACE SHOP cushions that came with smaller mirror.
As I pressed down the cushion, the first thing that I've noticed is the fact that the cushion feels denser than the ones from Laneige. The foundation also feels watery compared to Laneige as well.
Application:
Left: Bare face Right: Applied one layer of the cushion foundation with tapping method.
On the first application, the foundation feels watery on skin but seconds later it turned semi-matte, almost powdery finish. The coverage is medium I guess and it looks natural to me. Indeed, this the kind of finish that I always look for in cushion foundation.
After I applied half of my face, I noticed that the foundation started to settle in my pores so I quickly set it with Innisfree No Sebum Powder.
A finished looked. Brow - Maybelline Fashion Brow 3D Brow Kit. Eyeliner - K-Palette 1 Day Tattoo Real Lasting Eyeliner in Black. Lipstick - Etude House Dear My Wish Lips-Talk in BE101 mixed with MAC Persistence Matte Lipstick.
Verdict:
On the first application, the overall look is quite nice but only for few hours. Then the foundation started to settle in my pores. I did my left side without setting powder and right side with setting powder right away. I noticed that the side with setting powder settle less than the side with.
So I've tried with using primer under this cushion and found out that it doesn't settle as much as before. I guess it's the kind of product that needs mattifying primer underneath and need to be set on top. The longest hour without touch up is like 6 hours then I need to reapply a little bit and set again with powder.
The shade isn't that too light for me but I definitely gonna go to the store to check out the fourth shade. V203 is definitely a no for me so I gave it away. I think it's safe to say that the shade is slightly yellow but still natural like that of Laneige cushion. This shade is officially the darkest cushion foundation I have so far.
Final verdict: 3.5/5. I do like this cushion especially it feels so light on my skin. This is quite affordable at the price of RM83.90 in local THE FACE SHOP store and you can repurchase the refill just under RM50. I guess you need to invest in good primer to really prime your skin - depends on whether you have dry skin or oily skin, before using this cushion though. As I have better cushion foundations compared to this hence it's just average cushion for me.
I bought this cushion back in February last year and if you noticed my haul in November, I bought the limited edition of this cushion, a holiday collaboration with Kakao Friends so I got this cushion in V203 (only comes in 2 shades, boo!) but it comes with a refill. I decided to give the refill and the original case to my giftee in a recent Asian Beauty Community event, which is exchanging gifts among the members of the community. Apeach is so cute!
I guess that's all for this review! Do let me know if you're into cushion foundation and definitely put this product to the test as it is so convenient to bring around to apply and reapply throughout the day especially when you're on busy schedules; always on-the-go like runway models and speaking of which, learn how to become a model in Australia!
I'll see you guys on the next post! Annyeong~
