Review | THE FACE SHOP Natural Sun Eco Daily Sun Essence SPF40 PA+++

Wednesday, 8 November 2017
I bet you're thinking that why in the world I'm reviewing a sunscreen in the middle of the wettest month of the year here in Malaysia or you're thinking that we do not need to use sunscreen on these cloudy days or you're just curious that how is it possible for a sunscreen to exist in light consistency? Will it protect my skin well?

There are so much to learn when it comes to sunscreen and I'm pretty sure you guys are having hard time choosing and trying numbers of sunscreens as with skincare products, we always want to find the right ones that work the best with our skin especially in this hot and humid weather all year round. Lots of sunscreens are available in the market that surely can cater to your preferences and for me, for those days when I stay at home all day or cafe hopping during the weekends, I need a simple sunscreen that works great on top of my morning skincare or underneath my daily makeup.

But first, let me talk a little bit about this latest addition to THE FACE SHOP Malaysia sunscreen line; Natural Sun Eco Daily Sun Essence.

Product Description:

A Daily Sun Essence for everyday use leaves skin feeling moisturised!

Contains 5000 Î¼g of ECOCERT certified Sunflower Sprout Extract.

The sun protection essence not only filters and screens harmful UVA & UVB rays but also leaves skin feeling moisturised. The lightweight texture of the essence contains hyaluronic acid that hydrates the skin and leaves skin without white residue, making it perfect for daily use even in hot summer days.

Capacity: 50ml

Packaging:

All the sunscreens in the Natural Sun Eco line comes in that cream beige box packaging and this one comes with that teal colour (I'm guessing it's because this one is SPF40) unlike the majority of the items from this product line that comes in orange labeling; as they're SPF50+.

On the side of the box, there are symbols indicating the main extract contained in the sunscreen; sunflower sprout (seed) extract, NMF (Natural Moisturising Factor), with no animal-sourced ingredient and this product is formulated without paraben and dermatologically tested.

At the back side of the box, there's full Korean product description with English version was printed on the other side of the box. There's also Ingredients list at the lower bottom of the box.

WATER, OCTOCRYLENE, ETHYLHEXYL METHOXYCINNAMATE, DENATURED ALCOHOL, ETHYLHEXYL SALICYLATE, ISOAMYL P-METHOXYCINNAMATE. BIS-ETHYLHEXYLOXYPHENOL METHOXYPHENYL TRIAZINE, DIPROPYLENE GLYCOL, NIACINAMIDE, SILICA, PHENETHYL BENZOATE, DIMETHICONE, PANTHENOL, 1,2-HEXANEDIOL, ETHYLHEXYL TRIAZONE, DIETHYLAMINO HYDROXYBENZOYL HEXYL BENZOATE, GLYCERIN, HELIANTHUS ANNUUS (SUNFLOWER) SPROUT EXTRACT, SODIUM HYALURONATE, SODIUM PCA, TROMETHAMINE , POLYSORBATE 20, ADENOSINE, AMMONIUM ACRYLOYLDIMETHYLTAURATE / BEHENETH-25 METHACRYLATE CROSSPOLYMER, POLYACRYLATE-13, DEXTRIN PALMITATE, ACRYLATES / C10-30 ALKYL ACRYLATE CROSSPOLYMER, POLYISOBUTENE, HDI / TRIMETHYLOL HEXYLLACTONE CROSSPOLYMER, MICA (CI 77019), TRIETHOXYSILYL ETHYL POLYDIMETHYLSILOXYETHYL HEXYL DIMETHICONE, TRISODIUM EDTA, SODIUM BENZOATE, FRAGRANCE

With Octocrylene being listed only second on the list, it's safe to say that this sunscreen is actually a chemical sunscreen that usually work by absorbing the sun rays.

"Moisturise the right way with hydrating essence!"
"Easy-to-use Daily sun"

At the back of the bottle, there's simplified product description although in Korean however you get the gist from the symbols on top that this is a sunscreen product that you can use while you're outdoor (guy walking) that also can provide you with moisture. It has 50ml worth of product. Do note that sunscreen usually can be used up to 12 months after opened.

There's the expiration date printed at the bottom which gives approximately 3 years of shelf life. I would recommend for you to write its opening date so you'll know when to toss this out after one year.

The opening of the tube is quite small which is great so it's easy to control the amount of product being squeezed out of it. The cap has that screw cap with small part of it protruding out; just enough to fit into the opening so it's important to screw the cap properly to avoid leaking.

Application:

For this sunscreen, I usually take probably 3 drops of that dollop and spread even on my facial area. It's in light and watery consistency with that white to transparent colour.

Left: Once spread out, the product disappears into skin, creating a nice, colourless, non-sticky film on the area. Right: I took the picture using flash and as you can see, there's no white cast whatsoever.

Final Verdict: I give this sunscreen 5/5. This is probably the best sunscreen I ever tried due to its light consistency, easiness to spread onto my facial area, slight soapy scent to it and what I like the most about it is the fact that it doesn't affect my makeup application in a bad way. After using it several times, I don't see my face became oilier nor do I feel dehydrated with this sunscreen underneath.

I also use this product as my last step in my morning skincare routine and it goes with all chemical sunscreen that you need to give 20 minutes before going out in the sun for effective protection. With sebum-controlling loose powder on top, I could reapply the sunscreen easily for every 2 to 3 hours while doing outdoor activities.

I guess that's all from me. Let me know your thoughts on this product by leaving comments down below. I'll see you guys on my next post. Annyeong~
