Skincare Routine | Sleeping Masks

Sleeping masks are like skin saviours especially at the end of exhausting, fully scheduled  days when I usually just cleanse, tone and use them. I always opted those for hydration  and brightening but sometimes I'd pick up some for anti-aging as well. For today's post under my Beauty Routine series where I'll be giving out my thoughts on line of products at certain point of my skincare or makeup routine, check out these products that I use to seal all the products in my skincare routine whether I'm doing a full or simple routine for the day or night.

LANEIGE Water Sleeping Mask. A product that certainly doesn't need introduction when it comes to sleeping masks as I think it's safe to say that this actually one of the firsts out there and become a staple in any AB skincare enthusiast's routine or at least tried once. It's hydrating and such a great sealant to my night skincare routine. 


LANEIGE White Plus Renew Capsule Sleeping Pack. This is quite unique back then as it has a gel part and the brightening essence in one capsule that you need to mix before using it. One capsule is clearly ample for my facial area but these days I even applied my neck area with it. This one can't be used everyday unlike the Water Sleeping Pack as it'll be a little intense for that.


Innisfree Green Tea Sleeping Pack. Similar to LANEIGE bestseller, this one too hydrates really well and also giving me a soothing sensation. I usually use this at the end of scrub or peeling days also when my skin feel irritated due to makeup or I've spent many hours under the sun. 


Innisfree Capsule Recipe Sleeping Pack. I actually have other variants as this rice is just once of them. This too is ample for a single use so I usually just scoop the amount I need and save the rest of it for the next night. These are nice and it's great as they're many other variants with different functions. it comes in small tubs which is perfect for a short trip during the weekend. 


Of course, Monstory Cool Cool Mon Slow-Aging Sleeping Mask. I like it and been alternating my HG with this as I'm liking its slightly thick in texture and just making my skin soft and supple in the morning.

Last month, Althea Korea sent me one of their non-subscription Beauty Box; 7-Step Korean Skincare Box and the theme is K-Beauty Glow! Now, I bet you're already know what Korean skincare is all about; the ultimate goal of having bright, healthy (read poreless and baby soft), glowing skin and if you're still new and clueless to this most extensive (rhymes with expensive) skincare routine out there or just want to find some products that can help to cut down some steps in the routine and save some money, just read on and maybe put on some sheet mask on your cleansed and toned skin as this is going to be a long post.

A quick run through on Althea Beauty Boxes, these are beauty boxes that are launched 2 to 3 times a month on their website specially curated by Althea Mermaids with different and interesting themes or trends to basically bring out the K-beauty products to the eyes of ours; Asian beauty enthusiasts. As mentioned above, these are non-subscription beauty boxes so do follow their social media like Instagram for updates on these affordable starters and see if there's one box that befits your needs both for skincare and makeup. I actually bought a box of Vitamins-themed Althea Box before so do check it out here! Before we go to the products included in this box, let me just talk about Althea Korea box for a bit. Isn't it cute?

Althea Korea was still in the midst of Holiday season when they sent me this box hence the holiday-themed package. Quite frankly, I'd prefer to have the word "Holiday" rather than just Christmas as here in Malaysia, we're majority Muslims and as this limited edition box was released during November to January, it was indeed a holiday season with long school break, Christmas, and indeed it was the time when I personally take a long paid leave from work.

 

The box is in dark blue colour, a little bit of purple undertone with theme park during snowy season illustration on the sides of it. There's golden star patterns printed on the inner sides of it and I just love how cute they are as I opened the box, almost like I could hear chimes softly ring from afar.

If you've been reading my blog for quite some time, you'd notice that I'm all about brightening skincare products but beginning 2016 I have been incorporating some anti-aging skincare products into my routine to combat the dryness especially around my neck area. For that, I'd tried some deluxe anti-dryness moisturisers and serums but I haven't still found the one that suits my dehydrated normal to oily skin yet so I do actually hope that I might find something good among these curated items in this box. 

As Korean skincare routine generally consists of 2 to 3 products for cleansing stage, scrub or peeling product, toner (or toners for the trending 7-skin method), essence, serum, ampoule, eye cream, spot treatment, moisturiser, sleeping masks, and maybe more of that special kind of treatment skincare products like booster i.e. vitamin-filled product to help boost your line of skincare, activator i.e. product that can help in activating the cells at the deepest layers of skin for it to be able to absorb your line of skincare, finisher i.e. the last sealant on top of all the layers of your skincare, and other types of products with specific target and function. All of these 14 to 16 products basically complement each other and the key for applying them is according to their textures and viscosities i.e. from the most watery to the thickest or heaviest of creams. 

Now, let's go back to the 7 products included in this box and I going to go with the cleansers and the toner first. 

Assuming that I wear full makeup, the moment I stepped into my house; the first thing I do is to remove my makeup. I use a separate eye makeup remover to remove waterproof mascara, followed by cleansing water to pre-cleanse my skin as it's a habit of mine to just chill for a bit before I'm off to shower. I'd be using a cleansing oil to thoroughly cleanse my skin as it really melts off the makeup as I massage it well for a minute or two on my facial area. Then, I will do double cleanse with a cleansing foam or water-based cleanser. Every two to three days I will use scrubs to remove dead skin cells which you guys know how important it is to ensure high rate of absorption of your skincare products. Lastly, to wrap up the cleansing stage I would use a toner to remove any leftover of the cleansing product and helps restore the moisture loss during the cleansing process. 

In this Althea Box, a cleansing water is included and it's The SAEM Healing Tea Garden Tea Tree Cleansing Water. Any skincare products with tea tree as featured ingredient is basically meant for those with normal to oily skin as it helps removing excessive sebum deep in pores which can lead to acne if not being properly taken care of.

 

This refreshing cleansing water can be used to remove light makeup i.e. sunscreen or cc cream and impurities that have been accumulated throughout the day and it's actually doesn't require rinsing off with water afterwards. Still, I will at least rinse it off with water if it's the only cleanser I use for the night. 

It's watery, as I use it with cotton pads; wiping it all over my face and it gives me soothing and slightly cooling sensation as it removes my makeup of the day. I really like it and definitely would love to restock this product. 

Next step would be an oil-based cleanser to remove waterproof makeup like BB Cushion or thick foundation. With Natural Pacific Perfect Deep Cleansing Oil, I don't even need to use eye makeup remover for my waterproof mascara. Just take a few pumps and massage gently the eye area until the mascara melted off although I would massage my whole facial area first then proceed with eye area. I don't want to drag the black ink around. 

In the above photo, there are some of my base makeup swatches; from left, colour corrector cushion, BB Cushion, matte BB Cushion and a full coverage foundation with a pump of the cleansing oil. 

 

I would just massage the oil for few minutes or till everything is melted then I would just add a little bit of water to emulsify the oil and massage for a little bit more before washing it all off with water. I always follow up with my regular cleansing foam afterwards.

I do like this cleansing oil as it cuts the necessity for me to use a separate makeup remover for my eye makeup and the fact that the oil is light and easy to remove at the same time melts off my makeup really well is making me repurchasing it when I'm finished with it.

When it comes to taking care of dead skin cells, I always opt for scrubs however these days my cheeks are too dry for aggressive black sugar scrubs so I bought a honey version of the mask but still, I'd love to find other options if possible. The last time I tried something with a 'peeling' word in its name it was more like a mask that when you rub it enough on your skin, the substance will turn into  a rubber-like and roll your dead skin cells with it. I guess not with this DR. FROG Control-Tox Peeling Gel.

 

It's a clear gel and when I spread it around my facial area, it doesn't change into any other form and as I go with the instruction, to just massage all over for few minutes and wash it off afterwards. I did felt my skin much smoother and brighter; as you see in the right photo of my hand. 

Now the product that I anticipated mostly from this box is indeed this Son&Park Beauty Water. You guys have seen it being featured many times here in my blog and Instagram, the story of how I got my hands on the very first bottle all the way from Seoul back in the day (2015) as this brand was not readily available at local beauty store nor online. I fell in love with this toner or should I say Beauty Water as indeed it's more than just a water. It hydrates, gently exfoliates the skin, making it soft and supple and just ready for next product application.

 

If I were to compare between the one that I bought back in 2016 and the new one on the left that was included in this Althea Box, there's not much of a difference other than the cap is now engraved with the brand's logo. I feel like the scent, texture and effectiveness are pretty much the same as before. I love it, it's on my HG skincare list and I will repurchase it for the 6th time once I've finished with this one.

Next is these two products for moisturisation of the skin and included within the Althea Box; Leaguertox V-Shot Silhouette Lifting Ampoule and Rire Camu Camu Moisture Cream. 

 

The ampoule contains patented ingredients; L-Carnosine (anti-aging and elasticity improvement), Oligo-HA (wrinkle and elasticity improvement) and Argireline (wrinkle improvement and lifting effect). These patented ingredients; sweet almond seed extract, pomegranate extract and raspberry extract are sourced from nature.

The ampoule is indeed thick and it has this cooling sensation which is so nice once applied on my smile lines, neck lines even on my crow feet i.e. outer-V eye area. It soothes the tight feeling at these area on my face and neck and I love applying at least 4 to 5 dots on them. As it leaves sticky feeling to my skin, I'd prefer to apply my moisturiser right after. 

I love the packaging for this product as it's in the shade of pink that I like with a golden lid. The design is simple and pretty. To this point, I've only heard the term 'moisture cream' and never had the intention to try one as I always think that it's going to be thick and heavy for the skin. I'm completely blown away by this one.

This moisture cream supposedly provides abundant hydration and nutrition to the skin as it contains camu camu extract that is rich in Vitamin C and camellia oil that is rich in oleic acid hence it brightens (with 9 types of flower extracts and Niacinamide) and anti-wrinkles (with adenosine) at the same time. 

 

The texture is that creamy, sticky and elastic however once spread and massaged well onto my skin, I feel my skin is so smooth and it does give a subtle glow to my skin but most importantly the cream is not sticky as I had expected. 

This cream gives off strong scent however so if you're not keen on products that contain fragrance then maybe you want to stay away from this one though.

Last but not least, the seventh item included in this Althea Box is a sheet mask and if you ask me, you can never go wrong with a brightening sheet mask in your skincare routine.

 

Lebaton Essence Mask in Pearl Whitening supposedly brightens up dull skin with pearl extracts and other natural ingredients like Centella Asiatica extracts, ginkgo biloba extracts, aloe barbadensis extracts and camellia sinensis extracts to soothe the skin.

The sheet is quite thin considering it's a natural cotton sheet almost as thin as cupra sheet. The essence is clear and slightly watery with faint scent. I see brightening effect though temporary but I love the hydrating effect this gives. It's really affordable and I'd love to use this kind of mask in my morning routine. Definitely going to repurchase this along with the other 2 other variants from the mask line. 

Overall, I would say that these 7 items are sufficient for those of you who just started your journey in Korean skincare. Once you have patted down these products in your routine, you are ready to add more products like facial essence, serum or treatment ampoules. The ultimate goal when it comes to Korean skincare is having a bright, clear, healthy and glowing skin so taylor the products according to your skin needs.

For those of you who are already down with your own routine, having these products won't be redundant either as each of the product functions on its own and can possibly aid in boosting your skincare effects. Take the Beauty Water for an example, even if I don't do scrub for a week maybe two, the dead skin cells don't accumulate as much as compared to those days I was merely using a hydrating toner. If you haven't jump in on the cleansing oil wagon then you might just try that cleansing oil from Natural Pacific. 

I know at this point of time this particular Althea Box has already sold out and I might say that once the box is gone, it's gone. Though I've seen some boxes made return to the webstore, that's just luck. The prices offered for each of the box are affordable and take this box for example, it's much cheaper to just get this box rather than just getting the Beauty Water itself. Therefore, the next time you saw an Althea Box launched on the store, just grab them if it suits your need and who knows you might discover great new products for your skin.

Skincare Routine | Wash-Off Masks

Despite the fact that I'm all over sheet masks and aiming to use 600 sheet masks a year (yes, Fan Bing Bing! I'm following your footsteps), I do still use wash-off masks although I'm only sticking with my favourites; clay masks and brightening wash-off masks. For today's post under my Beauty Routine series where I'll be giving out my thoughts on line of products at certain point of my skincare or makeup routine, I'll be talking about these masks that I've repurchased more times than I can remember.

Skinfood Egg White Pore Mask. This has been repurchased probably 3 or 4 times so far and I'm gonna keep on buying it once I finished with one. This is perfect for morning clay mask as it really help in sebum-control, giving me that nice canvas for my makeup of the day. 

Innisfree Super Volcanic Jeju Clay Mask. This one definitely doesn't need introduction for any AB enthusiast. This really just purifies my pores as it clears out impurities off it. Another HG, I'm alternating this and the Egg White mask. The one thing that I absolutely hate about this product though, is the fact that how fast it dries out while sitting on the shelf so for the time being, I'm placing it in my bathroom shelf and so far it hasn't dry out yet.

LANEIGE Multiberry Yogurt Repair Mask. I got a deluxe sample of this and fell in love with the result after each time of using it. I was huge on wash-off masks up until early last year but starting around October, I finished off my other wash-off masks as I concentrate more on sheet masks. This mask is the only full-sized product that I have while others are in small capsule packs or mere deluxe samples. I do like it but this isn't as impressive as the newer sheet masks released by the brand plus as of this year, I no longer see this being sold at my local LANEIGE counter so it's probably discontinued.

Skincare Routine | Sunscreens

Whether it's bright or cloudy throughout the day, a beauty enthusiast such as yourself and myself included will definitely know that there's no such thing as not wearing SPF protection while you're out and about under the sun. For today's post under my Beauty Routine series where I'll be giving out my thoughts on line of products at certain point of my skincare or makeup routine, I'll be discussing about my selection of sunscreens that depends on my activity of the day.

THE FACE SHOP Natural Sun Eco No Shine Hydrating Sun Cream SPF40/PA+++. My favourite sunscreen from the brand that I've repurchased 3 times, this being the third time it being repackaged excluding the time it was released in The Simpsons limited edition last year. This is supposedly giving me sebum control on my T-zone and hydrating my cheeks. I use this on daily basis; indoor and not much of movement i.e. officeworks.


THE FACE SHOP Natural Sun Eco Daily Sun Essence SPF40/PA+++. The lightest Korean sunscreen I ever tried. I really like this as it's just perfect for my no-makeup makeup days. This is actually the first chemical sunscreen that I have and I usually go for this whenever I feel like I don't want to pile so many things on top as I'll be touching up with just blotting paper/powders i.e. indoor activities.


Dr. G Brightening Up Sun SPF42/PA+++. This sunscreen hydrates and instantly brightens my uneven complexion as it has a light pink to peach undertone so it's sun protection, moisturising and tone-up effect in one step although I haven't been using this a lot to say whether I like it or not. I use this for indoor activities where I'll be wearing makeup on top.


Biore UV Perfect Protect Milk SPF50+/PA+++. I recently got this from a gift exchange with a fellow beauty enthusiast on Instagram and I can't deny the fact that I really like it for its lightweight consistency! Definitely will come up with a full review for this one later. 

I still have several other sunscreens that are opened but not yet juggled among these sunscreens solely because I want to finish one bottle before moving onto the next one.

Skincare Routine | Moisturisers

During the past 3 months, I've only been using proper moisturiser at night and use lotions/emulsions during the day as I layer tone-up cream on top. For today's post under my Beauty Routine series where I'll be giving out my thoughts on line of products at certain point of my skincare or makeup routine, so I'll be talking about these products that help me maintaining my moisture barrier. 

LANEIGE White Plus Renew Original Cream. My first tub of this brightening moisturiser was back in 2014 which marked my first round of this skincare. Its creamy-gel texture is great for day and night routine though I now only use this at night. This is my last tub before I'm changing to White Dew skincare line.

Innisfree Whitening Pore Cream. I mentioned previously that I only use this for my day routine as it’s sebum controlling and offers brightening effect at the same time. I do like this especially under a thick opaque physical sunscreen at the same time.

THE FACE SHOP Fresh Lotus Soothing Gel. Of course, I have to have soothing gel for a quick remedy whenever I feel like my skin irritated from the sun or trying lots of ingredients at the same time. Also, when I’m experiencing flaky skin I usually just applied heap amount of the gel on the area, let it sit for about 20 minutes and slough it off to get rid of the dead skin cells.

THE FACE SHOP The Therapy Toning Moisture Blending Formula Cream and White Seed Spotlight Radiance Cream are two tone-up creams that I reviewed previously. I definitely am in love with former as it hydrates so well and giving me a natural-looking toned up look throughout the day. As the whole White Seed line is primarily targeting those in 20s, I have to add extra moisture for the tone up cream blends nicely on my skin.

Skincare Routine | Eye Care

I go through more or less of 10 products for my night routine but eye cream is the step that I often skip even though I know that I need to take better care for my eye area especially now that I'm entering my 30s. I went to the store and got myself 2 products from my favourite brands merely because I just want to motivate myself the fact that LANEIGE is getting more expensive year after year (thanks to weak Ringgit Malaysia) and the Innisfree Orchid line is my favourite line from the brand. For today's post under my Beauty Routine series where I'll be giving out my thoughts on line of products at certain point of my skincare or makeup routine, so I'll be talking about these eye care products that I have love-hate relationship with.

LANEIGE Time Freeze Eye Serum. I got this around last year and I'm not even half into this small bottle. The texture is quite thick despite its name and it does take several minutes of massaging around my eye area before it's fully absorbed.


Innisfree Orchid Eye Cream. I'm a huge fan of the moisturiser; Orchid Enriched Cream although to this day, I haven't finished using the sachets and deluxe-sized samples that came with my purchases and after watching @joankeem video on her ultimate eye cream battle, this one actually came out as a winner to her hence I decided to get this. I’ve been using this for the past week or whenever I feel extra dry under eye area.

Skincare Routine | Emulsions and Lotions

As someone with Normal to Oily skin, I always prefer light moisturisers over heavier ones any day as balancing the amount to my day-to-day skin needs is such a hassle as less of it can result in dryness on my cheek and jawline area while excess of moisture oftenly result in breakouts or clogged pores. To me it's much easier to just use emulsions and lotions as my sealant. For today's post under my Beauty Routine series where I'll be giving out my thoughts on line of products at certain point of my skincare or makeup routine, so I'll be talking about the products that I use at this step in my skincare routines. 

I have several products under this category and each of them targeting each of my concerns. Depending on their respective consistency, I tend to use the lightweight ones in my morning routine and the thicker ones in the evening. I saw some bloggers mentioned that lotions are thicker than emulsions but I have to say that it really depends on that product.

THE FACE SHOP White Seed Brightening Lotion is a brightening light moisturiser that I prefer to use in the morning while THE FACE SHOP The Therapy Hydrating Formula Emulsion; a deluxe sample with anti-aging purpose at night. I really like the latter as the finishing is nice and smooth however it's not readily available in Malaysian stores yet.


Innisfree Jeju Sparkling Mineral Lotion is kind of heavy to me and most of the times I felt like the product just sits on my skin without being absorbed. I've tried massaging for few minutes but I still feel the slippery film so I guess I will only be using it on those days when I feel my skin is really dry which is often these days.

LANEIGE White Plus Renew Emulsion is the last bottle I have and it's actually no longer available at the store. I do like this product throughout the time I was finishing the other 2 bottles previously and this works well with my skin in terms of balancing the hydration level and complementing the toner and essence from the same skincare line.


Actually, I'm in the process of transitioning my skincare method. Previously, I use single line skincare products for my morning and evening routine separately and now, I want to focus more on each of the product's texture especially the lightweight ones and layer them on top of each other as they formed a hydrating, brightening and sebum-controlling film. Yes, I'm talking about adapting the "7-skin method" where I'm using several toners; layering one on top of another and sealing them with light moisturisers. This works well with my skin for the past few weeks and I'm going to continue with it for another few more to see whether it works with my skin or I'll just go back to regular routine.

Skincare Diary | Morning Routine

This was my morning routine today and the past several weeks. I've mentioned previously that I always go for brightening or sebum-controlling skincare line for my morning routines but this line from Innisfree called Whitening Pore does both and I’m loving it. The toner contains some sort of powder that helps with controlling sebum and the squeezed fresh tangerine peel juice contained in the whole skincare line is for fresh and brighter skin tone. Oh, I forgot to include the cleanser in the above photo. Sorry!

I have started using Innisfree The Green Tea Seed Serum since September I think and I’m almost halfway through the bottle. I usually use it in the morning for extra boost of moisture.

As I mentioned before, the Innisfree Daily UV Protection No Sebum SPF35 PA+++ needs proper moisturiser to be layered underneath or you won’t be able to spread it even. Indeed, it’s meant for oily skin (my T-zone is) but even with my dry cheeks, I still want a matte finish with my sunscreen. I guess I need to find a hydrating sunscreen for my skin very soon.

Skincare Routine | Sheet Masks

If you have been noticing, I've been obsessing with sheet masking on daily basis since August last year I think so for today's post under my Beauty Routine series where I'll be giving out my thoughts on line of products at certain point of my skincare or makeup routine, I'll be talking about these ~600 sheet masks in my beauty stash! Just kidding. Merely a little bit of everything if you know what I mean.

I know, even I am quite overwhelmed to this sight as I gathered all of my sheet mask stash from every crook and cranny of my room. I'm going to move out probably at the end of April so I need to start sorting through my stuffs and these babies are the first group of items that I managed to take care of i.e. buying proper shelf and containers.

I bet you're already know that sheet masks have evolved from merely delivering moisture and hydration to your skin. Currently there are about 10 types of fabrics for the sheet like the most common ones; cotton fibres, silk, to much more recent cupra sheet, tencel sheet, and not forgetting those bio-cellulose sheet and hydrogel masks.

There are daily sheet masks focusing on hydration and of course my favourites are treatment sheet masks that comes with much more concentrated function like anti-wrinkle and intense hydration. There are even sheet masks that come in small patches that are to be placed at targeted area like smile lines and undereye area but I've been amazed by sheet masks that comes in two part; upper and lower parts that just envelop the curves of my facial area better compared to other regular masks.

At some point, I was obsessing over multi-steps packs that include cleansing step, serum or ampoule and then a sheet mask; all pack in a single packet of mask with different compartments which are great for travel. Just grab several for the trip along with your cleansers and moisturisers and you're good to go.

Finally after more than 4 years of having this little blog of mine, I decided to get my own domain so say hello to Myra Beauty Diary!

To those of you who have been reading my blog from time to time (or is there any of you who read every post here? Hugs!) I'm pretty sure you guys know that all I've been doing here in this blog are writing beauty reviews, hauls and of course beauty topics. Therefore, I think it's befitting the new name that I chose for this blog as it's pretty much like I'm writing my diary, with snippets of my view on stuffs and some photos.

I have to admit that I've only been so active on social media especially Instagram and sometimes Twitter as I've been working on new contents hopefully in much more organised and coherent manner. It's about time for me to really show you guys on what's going on with my beauty routine and other things I'm eager to share with you guys (hint: I've got new place to live!) as all I've been doing for the past months were just sharing my obsession with sheet masks and some beauty blogger mails and packages.
